Paid Family & Medical Leave (PFML)

 

Effective October 1, 2019

 

Beginning in January of 2021, most workers will be eligible for up to:

  • 12 weeks of paid family leave
  • 20 weeks of paid medical leave

 

This law affects both Employers and Employees.

 

Employees:

  • Familiarize yourself with new PFML law through Notice of Benefits

  • Sign and return appropriate notice from your employer
  • Payroll deductions begin October 1, 2019

 

Employers:

 

Independent Contractors (receive 1099-NEC):

  • Determine if you want to opt into coverage under PFML
  • Sign and return notices from companies that currently issue you 1099-NEC
  • Beginning October 1, 2019, some 1099 issuers will begin deducting from your check depending on their circumstances.
